With over 100 stores, they offer a wide range of styles at competitive prices, now featuring the exclusive Poltronesofá Italian-made collection alongside their regular ranges. UPDATE July 2026: scs.co.uk now redirects to poltronesofa.co.uk — the business trades as 'poltronesofà at ScS' (97 stores; legal entity A. Share & Sons Ltd unchanged).

A hundred showrooms, competitive pricing, and free delivery on most orders. It's not glamorous, but it works for a lot of people.”

The ProperSofa Take on SCS
ScS is one of the oldest names in British sofa retail, tracing back to 1894 in Sunderland — but the ScS you walk into today is a very different business to the one that floated on the London Stock Exchange. In January 2024 the Italian sofa maker Poltronesofà bought ScS outright for £99.4m and took it private. Since 12 March 2026 the stores trade as "poltronesofà at ScS", and the shop floor now leans heavily on Poltronesofà's own Italian-made ranges alongside the familiar ScS lines. Both scs.co.uk and poltronesofa.co.uk are live; scs.co.uk remains the main UK shopfront.
That Italian takeover is the single most important thing to understand before you buy. It came with a roughly £57m estate-wide refit and a deliberate narrowing of the offer — carpets, flooring and dining were dropped so the business could concentrate on upholstery. The result is a leaner, more sofa-focused chain of around 97 stores, most positioned on out-of-town retail parks where you can park easily and browse without pressure.
On paper the after-sales protection is generous: a 20-year frame guarantee, with optional Elite Protect cover you can add on. In practice the frame guarantee covers the structural skeleton — springs, spring clips and arm cushions are treated as wearing parts — so read what is actually covered before you assume 20 years means the whole sofa. Finance is the usual big-retailer story: interest-free credit spread over terms up to four years, subject to a minimum spend and a credit check.
Reputation is where ScS needs a careful eye. The picture genuinely splits by source — individual showroom staff and delivery crews earn warm praise, but independent review platforms carry a steady stream of complaints about delivery delays, comfort not matching the showroom model, and after-sales that can feel slow when something goes wrong. Benny's line: a solid budget-to-mid pick with real Italian pedigree behind it now, but go in with eyes open, sit on the exact model for a good ten minutes, and get every delivery date and guarantee term in writing before you sign.
