About ProperSofa
ProperSofa is the UK's first independent sofa showroom directory. We help sofa buyers find, compare, and visit showrooms from the nation's leading brands — all in one place, with honest opinions and no favours to anyone.
Why We Exist
Buying a sofa is one of the biggest furniture decisions you'll make. You want to see it, sit on it, feel the fabric, argue with your partner about the colour — before committing. But finding which brands have showrooms near you shouldn't require a PhD in Google Maps.
That's why we built ProperSofa — a single, independent directory covering 53 brands, 906 showrooms, and 97 cities across the UK. No sponsorship, no favourites (except our top picks, but those are earned).

Editor & Founder
ProperSofa is founded and edited by Swapnil Yadav (LinkedIn) — a product manager who spends his weekends doing too much research on UK furniture retailers. Every brand rating, comparison guide, and city overview is reviewed under his editorial accountability before it goes live.
ProperSofa writes in a plain, first-person studio voice — warm, direct, and unafraid to say when a sofa isn't worth the money. Swapnil is the human who's answerable for every word.

How We Source Our Ratings (Honest Disclosure)
ProperSofa is a research-based directory, not a visit-based review site. Our ratings synthesise:
- •Trustpilot review data (score, volume, recent-trend) for every brand
- •Brand-published specifications — warranty terms, returns policy, delivery windows, frame guarantees, fabric grades
- •Showroom footprint analysis — number of locations, geographic distribution, accessibility
- •Pricing transparency signals — published price ranges, finance terms, hidden-fee patterns flagged in independent reviews
- •Comparative industry research — UK furniture trade press, consumer body reports (Which?, Trading Standards)
What we don't do: visit every showroom in person before rating it. Our job is to synthesise the public-record evidence into a usable signal — not pretend to have tested all 906 showrooms. If you want first-hand impressions of a specific store, our showroom pages link directly to recent Trustpilot reviews for that location.
Independence
ProperSofa is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any sofa retailer. Information is gathered from publicly available sources. Our ratings cannot be bought, sponsored, or boosted by paid placement. If a brand offers us advertising, we'll happily run their ad — but it won't change a single cushion on their rating.
Our Methodology
Every showroom listing on ProperSofa is researched, verified, and geocoded by our team. Here's how we do it:
- 1.Brand research — We identify every UK sofa brand with physical showrooms, from high-street names to independent makers, using public directories, brand websites, and industry sources.
- 2.Showroom scraping & verification — Showroom addresses are extracted from each brand's official website using automated scraping, then cross-checked against public records. Every postcode is geocoded to precise map coordinates.
- 3.Data enrichment — We enrich each brand profile with pricing, warranty details, delivery information, finance options, sustainability initiatives, and customer review scores sourced from Trustpilot and brand websites.
- 4.Ongoing updates — Showroom data and brand details are periodically reviewed to catch closures, relocations, and new openings. If something looks wrong, visitors can report inaccuracies directly via our contact page.
How We Rate Brands
Every brand gets a rating from 1 to 5 cushions. We take this seriously — the ratings aren't random and they're not for sale. Here's how they work:
- ★Trustpilot alignment — Brands with low customer review scores cannot receive top-tier ratings. Real customer feedback matters.
- ★Accessibility — Brands with only 1–2 showrooms are capped at 4/5 maximum. If most people can't visit, they can't get the top score.
- ★Value & transparency — Warranty clarity, delivery information, finance options, and returns policies all contribute to the overall rating.
Rating tiers: 5/5 = Absolute belter · 4/5 = Properly good · 3/5 = Decent enough · 2/5 = Below par · 1/5 = Needs work
Data Freshness
All 906 showroom locations were last verified in February 2026. Trustpilot scores are updated periodically. Brand pricing, delivery, and warranty details are reviewed during each enrichment cycle. If you spot something that's changed, let us know.
