Neptune Redbrick at 218 Bradford Road (WF17 6JF) is parked inside Redbrick Mill alongside Sofology and Sofas & Stuff, which is — and I'll say it again — the best converted-mill sofa destination in Britain. The Neptune showroom inside is the usual immaculate, ridiculously-coordinated affair: country-house style done so well you start questioning your colour scheme by the third room set. Park once, hit three brands, eat at the on-site cafe. Midweek is civilised, weekends busy with proper sofa shoppers who've twigged what Redbrick Mill is. Dangerous for the bank balance, as Neptune always is.

Wakefield's 10 sofa showrooms run across two distinct clusters that essentially serve different shoppers — Birstall Retail Park at Junction 27 on the M62 for the mainstream chains, and the Redbrick Mill area in Batley for the design-led end. The Loaf and Sofas & Stuff combination is particularly strong if you want British craft with personality — Loaf's showrooms are properly fun, and Sofas & Stuff is my number-one pick across the whole directory. Practical bits: Junction 27 is dead easy off the M62 J27, free parking, and Redbrick Mill is a 5-minute drive south through Batley. Combine the two and you've got a serious West Yorkshire sofa expedition in half a day, with time for a Yorkshire-pudding lunch in between. Saturday afternoons get busy at Junction 27 — Sunday or weekday mornings are the move. Wakefield punches above its size partly because Redbrick exists, frankly.
