IKEA in Cardiff
1 showroom · Budget (£)Est. 1943
IKEA needs no introduction — the Swedish furniture giant offers affordable, functional sofas in a range of modern styles. With 21 UK stores, they're great for immediate availability and budget-friendly options, though customisation is limited.
Known for: Affordable design, flat-pack expertise
Right, let's be honest — IKEA sofas are the training wheels of interior design. They're affordable, they look decent enough in the photos, and assembling one is basically a relationship stress test. Fine for your first flat, but if you're still on a KLIPPAN at forty, we need to have a chat.

Benny's Take — IKEA in Cardiff
IKEA Cardiff at Ferry Road, Grangetown (CF11 0XR) is the only IKEA in Wales — the big-box destination for the whole south-Wales catchment, which is why Saturday traffic can be properly committed. Full sofa floor includes KLIPPAN, Vimle, Friheten and Söderhamn on permanent display, plus the marketplace and the rest of the Swedish warehouse experience. M4 J33 is the practical access. Order-and-collect now applies for most sofa items. Weekday midmornings give the calmer walk-through and the planning-station conversation. Pair with the Cardiff Bay run if you're making it a city-trip day.
Sofa Shopping in Cardiff
Cardiff's 11 showrooms make it Wales's only properly comprehensive sofa destination, and the geography is generous: most of the action sits along two retail parks at opposite ends of the city, with John Lewis anchoring the centre. Cardiff Gate Retail Park out at CF23 8NL on the eastern fringe hosts DFS Cardiff Gate (currently temporarily closed at time of writing, so worth ringing ahead), Oak Furnitureland Cardiff at 6 Dering Road, and ScS Cardiff Gate. Capital Shopping Park at Leckwith Road on the western side picks up DFS Cardiff Leckwith Road (the now-open sister site), ScS Cardiff Capital Retail Park, and Dunelm Cardiff at Leckwith Retail Park. IKEA Cardiff at Ferry Road in Grangetown at CF11 0XR handles the budget anchor. John Lewis Cardiff sits in the city centre at CF10 2EL, and HSL Cardiff have a proper showroom at Unit 3, The Design Quarter on Ipswich Road off Colchester Avenue for the comfort-seating crowd. Llantrisant up the A4119 picks up DFS Llantrisant at Glamorgan Vale Retail Park — handy if you're coming in from the Valleys. Seager Retail Park at CF23 9AA houses Sofology Cardiff at Unit C. The price mix tells the honest story: seven budget showrooms, two mid, two mid-high — and crucially, zero high or luxury options. This is Wales's furniture-shopping centre, but the top end simply isn't here. If you want Neptune, BoConcept, or anything Italian, you're driving to Bristol or further. Practical reality: M4 J33 funnels you to Capital Park at Leckwith, J30 to Cardiff Gate — both are easy. Cardiff city-centre parking is paid but reasonable, and St David's car park serves John Lewis directly. Saturday Six Nations match days turn the city into a beautifully chaotic mess — schedule around them. Wales gets a fair offering at the budget and mid-tier end, but Cardiff's the only show in town for any serious selection.
