Habitat
An honest Habitat review — ratings, warranty, prices & UK showrooms
Habitat is a design-led furniture brand founded by Sir Terence Conran in 1964, now owned by Sainsbury's (Argos). Once a pioneer of accessible modern design on the British high street, they continue to offer contemporary sofas with clean lines and bold colours at mid-to-high price points. With 3 standalone showrooms plus availability through Argos, Habitat targets younger design enthusiasts looking for stylish pieces that punch above their price range.
The verdict
3/5Decent enough“Habitat was once the revolutionary force that made modern design accessible to ordinary Brits — Terence Conran's original baby before The Conran Shop went upmarket. The brand's had more lives than a cat: independent icon, Ikea subsidiary, Homebase disaster, and now a Sainsbury's online label. The current range is decent enough for the price, but buying a 'Habitat sofa' in 2026 isn't quite the same as it was in 1964.”
